Explicit and Implicit Hopelessness and Self‐injury

Objective This study examined the relationship between explicit and implicit measures of hopelessness self-injurious behavior (defined here as self-harming or suicidal actions thoughts). Method A community sample 267 participants completed (Beck's Hopelessness Scale a Feeling Thermometer), an measure (Hopelessness Implicit Association Test), self-report their history behavior. Results The results showed that high levels hopelessness, measured both explicitly implicitly, were associated with past recent self-injury. However, there was also interaction such more strongly predictive self-injury in people hopelessness. Conclusion findings show measurement can help predict beyond what currently achieve could be used assessment risk behaviors.
